Pool Opening Tips
  1. Open your pool as early as possible. The end of April or beginning of May is ideal. Pools that open early have far less problems with water chemistry. This is due to the water not being stagnant while it is warming up.

  2. Start with a clean filter. Dirt in filters causes problems with not only circulation, but also with over consumption of sanitizer. Low sanitizer is the start of every clarity problem in a swimming pool. Please visit our filter maintenance page for more detailed information, it is under the service tab of our web site.

  3. When getting ready to open the pool, pump off water and remove leaves from the winter cover before attempting to remove it. Water is extremely heavy (7lbs per gallon) so any small pockets of water will add up to a lot once you get it all to the side of the pool. Even the strongest man is only human, don't expect to be able to lift 250 lbs of water (only 30 gal) up over the side of the pool.

  4. Fill your pool up under the winter cover after removing the water and leaves from the cover. You want to be able to start the pool and circulate chemicals as soon as the cover is removed. If you are low on water and it takes several days to fill the pool, it'll be green before you start the year off.

  5. Add your start up chemicals as soon as the pool system is running. This will polish what should be mildly hazy water. We know based on your pool size exactly what you need to add. Bring in a pool sample as soon as possible to get the water balanced so your pool feels and looks great!

  6. Open your pool while we are open, that way if you come across questions or need a part, we will be able to assist you right away. We are open evenings and weekends all year long. We offer an opening service if you want to have us open it for you, please see the opening contract for more information.

  7. Lastly, if you want to jump into your pool as soon as you remove the winter cover, wear a wet suit to avoid hyper thermia!!! (ha-ha) it will take approximately two weeks for your water temperature to reach 75 degrees if you do not have a heater.
